Challenge

A large international contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) faced the crucial challenge of safeguarding the integrity of high-risk shipments dispatched from its global headquarters to clinical sites worldwide. These shipments included regions with demanding logistical and geographical constraints.

To mitigate the risk of temperature excursions, shipments were meticulously transported using advanced vacuum-insulated packaging (VIP) systems, designed for optimum protection. Recognising the need for swift delivery, the VIP units were strategically positioned in several global locations for rapid, same-day dispatch to meet tight timelines.

Solution

QuickSTAT implemented a tailored programme for the customer's VIP units to be stored and dispatched on a just-in-time (JIT) basis. This meant shipments could leave on the same day as requested.

Specialised QuickSTAT temperature-controlled facilities were established, mapped, and qualified in line with EU GDP guidelines, and strategically located in Ireland, Australia, and Singapore.

VIP units were stored and conditioned according to the manufacturer’s precise specifications for the required temperature ranges: +2° to +8°C, +15° to +25°C, and -25° to -15°C.

QuickSTAT’s inventory management software provided real-time access to inventory, shipment conditioning status, and availability. Customers could track shippers in transit, monitor the actual validity period from pack-out, and calculate the time from pack-out to expiration—bolstering product integrity throughout the journey.

With expedited transport and immediate dispatch, turnaround times were dramatically shortened, accelerating delivery to destinations worldwide by at least 24 hours compared to previous industry practices.
